# How do I find and fix a repeating steering bind, and set maximum wheel cut, on a Battle Raider or Raider N?

## A hard, repeating steering bind on RH-drive and dual-steer trucks may be caused by shaft phase or system indexing. Check the setup, check shaft phase, measure steering effort variation, then adjust system indexing at the RH miter input one tooth at a time. If that doesn't fix it, the split test finds the side with the problem.

\# Raider and Raider N Steering — Binding and Maximum Wheel Cut

\*\*Dealer diagnostic procedure | Battle Raider / Raider N (LET2 / LNT) | LHD, RHD and Dual Steer | Diesel and BEV | Rev E\*\*

\*\*Read the complete 17-page Steering Binding and Maximum Wheel Cut procedure before testing or making adjustments.\*\* It contains the steering-path diagrams, component identification, diagnostic record, shaft-phase and system-indexing checks, split tests, wheel-cut adjustments, warnings, and reference specifications.

[\*\*Open the complete Steering Binding and Maximum Wheel Cut Procedure (PDF, 17 pages)\*\*](https://app.hubspot.com/api/filemanager/api/v2/files/223273653795/signed-url-redirect?portalId=22125820)

\## Stop here first

1\. Identify the complaint and select the correct diagnostic path. \*\*Bind, notch, catch, self-steer, or repeating effort:\*\* use Part B, then the repair it directs you to in Section 12. \*\*Tire rub at full turn, excessive turning radius, gear replacement, or alignment:\*\* use Parts C and D. \*\*Pump, hose, reservoir, fluid, or pressure concerns:\*\* use Part E.

2\. For a repeating bind on an RH-drive or dual-steer truck, follow the PDF’s setup, shaft-phase, and steering-effort checks before making adjustments. \*\*Shaft phase and system indexing are different checks.\*\* Do not adjust axle stops or relief plungers to correct a bind, and do not change shaft phase or system indexing to center the steering wheel.

3\. Complete the \*\*Section 8 diagnostic record\*\* with actual readings, findings, and pass/fail results. Record steering-effort variation and each system-indexing position tested. Do not replace the gear, a miter box, or a shaft just because the bind can be felt through it.

\*\*Safety warning:\*\* Chock the wheels before working at the wheels or steering. On BEV trucks, chock the wheels before releasing the brakes to run the steering pump; set the parking brake before removing the chocks. Never work under a truck supported only by a jack. Use two people for the steering checks, agree on commands, and keep hands and tools clear before the helper turns the wheel.

\*\*Loss-of-steering warning:\*\* Every disconnected yoke must be reinstalled fully seated on its spline, with the clamp bolt through the groove and torqued to the applicable specification in Section 14. Never straighten a bent or twisted steering shaft.

The PDF is the complete procedure. Use its component identification, vehicle setup, test sequence, measurements, repair instructions, and documented pass/fail guidance rather than this overview alone.
